When it comes to vehicle safety, most people's attention is focused on the car. In fact, commercial vehicles , especially trucks, account for a large proportion of traffic accidents.

● Traffic accidents in commercial vehicles are thought-provoking

According to the data from the Vehicle Management Division of the Traffic Management Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security, the number of heavy-duty vehicles operating since 2008 has grown rapidly, and the proportion of trucks in operation has also continued to increase. By the end of September 2013, the proportion had reached 37%. With the rapid increase in the number of trucks, the issue of truck safety management has become increasingly prominent. The number of trucks only accounted for 8% of the total number of motor vehicles, but the number of traffic accidents that caused them accounted for 18%, and the resulting death toll accounted for 28%.

In 2012, there were 34,000 traffic accidents involving trucks, which caused 17,000 deaths and 25 accidents involving more than 10 people died. Among them, 10 accidents involved trucks. In 2012, the 10,000-car death rate for trucks nationwide was 19.58%, which was 1.3 times higher than the 10,000-car death rate for motor vehicles in the same period.

Although there are many reasons for the traffic accidents of commercial vehicles, such as the driver's untimely response, improper operation, overload, and failure of vehicle braking technology. However, the most stable, most active, and most effective way to reduce the traffic accident rate of commercial vehicles is to increase the braking technology of commercial vehicles. At this point, we can not help but ask, what are the standards/regulations of China's commercial vehicle brake systems ? What are the commercial vehicle brake technologies and their application status?

● Insufficient braking regulations

To this end, the reporter interviewed Knorr-Bremse, the world's leading manufacturer of rail and commercial vehicle braking systems. According to Mr. Hao Yongming, director of electronic product center of Knorr Brake Equipment (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., as early as 2003, the ABS system of commercial vehicles was enforced in the GB/T13594 regulations, which was not well implemented at that time. By 2011, China's commercial vehicle accidents have occurred frequently. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has strengthened the enforcement of laws and regulations in major host plants such as FAW, FAW, CNHTC, Shaanxi Auto, Foton, and passenger vehicle factories including Yutong.

It also revealed that the mandatory installation regulations for ABS for commercial vehicles in the “Technical Conditions for Operational Safety of Motor Vehicles” GB 7258 promulgated in 2012 were postponed until September 1 this year. All commercial vehicles in GB7258 will have to install ABS.

● Knorr ABS with ramp assist

As the world's leading commercial vehicle brake system company, Knorr's products and technologies cover the entire commercial vehicle brake system. At present, in the Chinese market, Knorr has specifically launched the ABS system with Hill Start Assist (HSA). Most commercial vehicles in China are manual transmissions. When starting on a ramp, you need to gently step on the clutch while gently releasing the clutch. Due to the heavy load of commercial vehicles, it is easy to "slide." The Knorr ramp start assist system can reserve the pressure of the rear axle brake air chamber for 3 seconds. The driver can complete the release of the brake pedal within 3 seconds and depress the accelerator pedal so that the vehicle does not "roll off the car." The case passed smoothly through the ramp.

● Knorr pioneered Electronic Stability System (ESP) based on ABS and Electronic Brake Control (EBS)

Knorr is the world’s first company to develop an Electronic Stability System (ESP) based on ABS and Electronic Brake Control (EBS). The ABS-based ESP needs to increase front/rear axle ASR (actuated anti-skid system) function valves to brake the front and rear axles separately; add a steering angle sensor to know the direction of vehicle steering; add a yaw angle sensor to understand the steering state of the vehicle; Two pressure sensors on the top monitor the current brake pressure.

The ESP performs steering braking, steering control, or modifying the geometry of the suspension for a single or multiple axle that is turning. That is, it can be controlled by a single wheel or a single axle; it also controls the torque output of the engine. This achieves directional control and rollover control.

Simply put, ESP has three functions: oversteer, understeer, and rollover prevention.

● Commercial Vehicle ADAS System

In addition to the above technologies, Knorr owns three major commercial vehicle active safety technologies, ACC Adaptive Cruise, LDWS Lane Departure Warning, and AEBS Advanced Emergency Braking System, all of which are Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

The LDWS system can alert the driver when the vehicle deviates from the original lane. In the future, Knorr will also go further on the system so that when the vehicle deviates from the lane, it can automatically correct it and return to the original lane.

When the current distance behind the ACC system is less than the safe distance, an alarm is issued and the vehicle is braked slightly. When the current car is accelerating, and the actual speed of the rear vehicle is lower than the set speed, the car will automatically accelerate and the target will not be lost in most corners.

The AEBS system double-determines the front object by the radar and camera installed in the front vehicle. Automatic emergency braking is performed on the system to detect moving or stationary objects on the road, and the driver does not need any operation.

Mr. Hao Yongming revealed that in the future, through radar equipment, vehicles can be informed ahead of the road conditions, such as uphill and downhill. The system will automatically implement reasonable braking and acceleration actions according to the ramp to reduce unnecessary fuel consumption.

At present, the most needed commercial vehicle market in China is the popularization of ABS, EBS and other systems. On this basis, advanced ADAS systems can be used. Mr. Hao Yongming stated that the current obstacle to the promotion of ABS in China is the lack of government support. Without government support, the cost and maintenance costs of ABS systems will be very high. Only if companies actively persuade the government about the importance and effectiveness of related technologies, will the government formulate laws and regulations and the technology will become widespread.

Laser Cladding Powder

Nickel Based Laser Cladding Powder

Ni base alloy powder is mainly made of NiCrBSi or NiBSi. Ni-based self-fluxing powder has good wettability, corrosion resistance and high temperature self-lubricating effect, and is used in components with heat resistance, corrosion resistance and thermal fatigue resistance. In general Ni35,Ni45,Ni60 etc can be used for laser cladding, the No means hardness of powder. Inconel 625 and 718 has good corrosion property under higher temperature, also widely used for laser cladding process.

Cobalt based Laser Cladding Powder

Cobalt-based alloy powder is the cemented carbide resistant to various types of wear and corrosion as well as high temperature oxidation. That is, the so-called cobalt-chromium-tungsten (molybdenum) alloy or Stellite alloy cobalt-based alloy is mainly composed of cobalt, containing a considerable amount of nickel, chromium, tungsten and a small amount of molybdenum, niobium, tantalum, titanium, Alloying elements such as lanthanum, and occasionally a class of alloys containing iron.

Co-based self-fluxing alloys have good high temperature performance and wear resistance and corrosion resistance, and are used in petrochemical power, metallurgy and other industrial fields where they are wear-resistant, corrosion-resistant and high-temperature resistant.

Iron based Laser Cladding Powder

The work pieces required for laser cladding and manufacturing in the actual industry are mainly carbon steel and cast steel. The Fe-based alloy is close to the base material in composition and has good wettability. The advantage of Fe base powder is lower cost and good wear resistant of cladding layer. As a result, it`s the most widely used for laser cladding process. It is suitable for parts that require local wear resistance and are easily deformed.

Laser Cladding Work Part

WC blended Laser Cladding Powder

Tungsten carbide blended with Ni alloy powder is the best choice for wear resistant work piece. This unique process can bring excellent wear, corrosion and high temperature resistant. Our blend powder can achieve different portion of WC from 35% to 60% without crack under suitable cladding parameter.
