Bearing steel contains impurities generated by the combination of oxygen and non-metal elements generated during the steelmaking process. Locally produced steels often contain a lot of impurities, so the bearing life is shorter. NSK reduced the amount of oxygen in the steel with the help of the steel makers, and eventually reduced the impurity content of the bearing steel to the same level as that of the Japanese steel, achieving the same life and strength as a Japanese-made bearing.

In the case of a locally manufactured roller, the shape accuracy of the rolling surface is often unstable, so that the load tends to concentrate on a part of the rolling surface, resulting in a shortened bearing life. In addition, the shape accuracy of the roller end is also unstable, so the friction torque increases, and the ablation phenomenon is likely to occur earlier. NSK provides thorough quality management by providing guidance to local suppliers on processing technology, and improves the accuracy of the shape of the rolling surfaces and the ends. Through this measure, the life, friction loss, and ablation resistance were finally reached to the same level as those produced by Japanese rollers. In addition, NSK also evaluated the performance of locally manufactured cages, confirming that the quality has reached the same level as Japanese products.
