Stop the engine for a few minutes before parking
It is important that the engine be idled for 3 to 5 minutes before stopping to allow the lubricant and cooling water to take away heat from the combustion chamber, bearings, and shaft. This is especially important for turbocharged engines .
Bearings and oil seals in turbochargers are all affected by high exhaust temperatures. When the engine is running, this heat is carried away by the circulating oil. However, if the engine suddenly stops, the booster temperature may increase by as much as 56°C. The result of overheating will cause the bearing to jam or the oil seal to fail.
Do not make the engine idle for too long
Prolonged idle operation is detrimental to the engine because the temperature of the combustion chamber is too low to allow complete combustion of the fuel. This will cause carbon deposits, which will clog the injector orifice and piston ring and may trap the valve.
If the temperature of the engine coolant becomes too low, some of the unburned diesel will flush the lubricating oil on the cylinder wall and dilute the oil in the crankcase, causing all the moving parts in the engine to suffer from poor lubrication.
If the engine is not in use, stop it.

Turn the key switch to the "off" position to turn off the engine
For engines with an electric shut-off valve, the engine can be shut down completely by turning off the key switch or by turning the manual valve. The key switch controls the electric shut-off valve. As long as the manual control knob on the shut-off valve is not locked in the open position, turning off the key switch can always stop the engine. If you use the manual control knob on the electric shut-off valve, turning the knob counterclockwise turns the engine off. The key switch must not be used to shut off the valve before the engine is fully stopped.
Note: Never place the key switch or control knob in the open position or in the operating position when the engine is stopped. The high position fuel tank will allow diesel to flow into the cylinder, causing hydraulic lock.
Stop any engine immediately if any parts are faulty
In fact, all failures always give the operator some warning before parts fail and the engine is damaged. Some alert and experienced operators noticed alarm signals (sudden drop in engine oil pressure, abnormal sound, etc.) and stopped the engine immediately, saving many engines.
