The basic work of the Ministry of Science and Technology specializes in the investigation, collection and preservation of non-food diesel energy energy plants and related microbial resources, and preliminary results have been obtained. Recently, the reporter learned from the project leader and the researcher of the South China Botanical Garden of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Xing Fuwu that after investigation and evaluation by the project team and with reference to foreign standards, China’s non-food diesel energy source with high oil content of more than 30%, high output, and development value was identified. There are as many as 147 plants. These varieties spread over various climate zones in China, breaking the current situation that foreign introduced varieties can only develop in limited areas.

Energy plants refer to plants that provide energy raw materials. In China, there are numerous biological species, about 30,000 species of vascular plants, second only to Indonesia and Brazil, of which about 15,000 have economic value, and about 4,000 have energy development value, of which 1,500 are non- Grain and diesel energy plants. In China, there are 116 million hectares of marginal land such as wasteland, tidal flats and saline-alkali land, which are used to develop non-food energy crops. This will not only increase farmers' income, but also improve the local ecological environment and increase the strategic reserve of alternative energy sources.

Therefore, experts generally believe that the biomass energy industry has great potential in China.

However, at present, the types of energy crops developed and utilized in China are few, and most of them are cultivated varieties from outside the country. They cannot fully adapt to China's climate and environmental conditions. On the contrary, the development and use of indigenous plants is rare.

To this end, the special work of the Ministry of Science and Technology “Special Investigation, Collection, and Preservation of Non-grain Diesel Energy Plants and Related Microbial Resources” focuses on the investigation and evaluation of the resources of indigenous non-food and diesel energy plants, and attempts to list non-food and diesel energy plants suitable for China’s development. Big list.

It is reported that this five-year special project has been launched since 2008 and has a total of 19 undertaking units, among which the South China Botanical Garden of the Chinese Academy of Sciences is the first undertaking unit.

According to Xing Fuwu, the project team members conducted an unprecedented scale field survey from 2009 to 2010 and conducted more than 800 field trips in more than 400 sample counties in 30 provinces across the country. The footprints spread across the river from the rainforest to the cold. Temperate coniferous forests, from alpine meadows to desert vegetation, have carried out comprehensive scientific surveys on the types, distribution patterns, growth conditions, and population distribution of energy plants in different vegetation types and habitats in China, forming detailed scientific data. .

The reporter learned that the project team measured 930 kinds of 1900 energy plants in two years. In the ranking of oil content, ranking first is Zhejiang Xinmu Jiangzi, which has an oil content of 81%; the top 8 oil content is above 65%; there are 434 species of plants with oil content above 30%.

“Many of these varieties have never been measured in the past.” Xing Fuwu, for example, said that the oil content of the Hunan white sandalwood fruits of Hawthornaceae reached 30.7%, and the local people even used it to cook for decades. “But we used to Do not know at all".

In addition, Xing Fuwu said that the oil-rich section is the outstanding result of this investigation.

It is reported that in the Camellia family, there are many plants with higher oil content than Camellia oleifera (30%), which will be a major research focus in the future. The genus Polygonaceae is also an oil-rich major, and the components are suitable for biodiesel, and some seeds contain oil. Even as high as 81%; there are more than 200 species of Euphorbiaceae in China, of which there are more than 10 kinds of high oil content; in the legumes, China has many plants with high oil content from south to north. In addition, China's temperate rich oil species are also many.

Xing Fuwu introduced to reporters that the establishment of the "147" list took into account such indicators as output, oil content, composition, and adaptability. “It must have similar properties and components to fossil diesel. Afterwards, consider multi-purpose bio-energy plants. For example, Quang Ninh Tea has an oil content as high as 59.1%. Its flowers are highly ornamental and suitable for garden plants. It has high promotion value. .

However, the species with high oil content and in line with the evaluation criteria must also consider its output. Some varieties can only be planted in a relatively small range. Some species are also scarce under natural conditions and require high cultivation conditions, making it difficult to generalize. "Xing Fuwu said.

In addition, this special item also carries out a certain degree of investigation and identification of energy microbial resources. Xing Fuwu pointed out that energy microbiological production cycle is short, the extraction cost is low, the production volume is large, and the cultivation is fast, and attention should be paid to it.

After this exploration, it was confirmed that China's indigenous energy crops are rich in resources and the potential for biomass energy development is huge. It is reported that the project team will establish a database of China's energy plant sciences, which will lay the foundation for determining the list of local energy plants in the future.
