According to foreign media reports, Toyota recently delivered the first batch of fuel cell (FC) buses to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Department of Transportation. The buses will be put into regular use next month, and the second batch of FCs will arrive at this time. The Toyota FC bus carries 76 passengers and uses two sets of solid-phase polymer electrolyte TFCS, each capable of outputting 114 kW. It is reported that these buses will also be deployed to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
The FC bus fuel cell system was transformed from the Toyota Mirai fuel cell stack. A total of 10 high-pressure tanks for storing hydrogen fuel were installed in the vehicle, with a total capacity of 600L. They can produce a total of 226 kW of power and 670 Nm of torque.
In addition to carrying passenger traffic for the Toei route, Toyota said that the bus can also serve as an energy source in the event of a natural disaster, which can generate 235kWh of electrical energy.
