Not long ago, coincided with the 40th anniversary of the United Nations Environment Programme and the International Year of Renewable Energy, as part of the En.lighten partnership, Philips launched the pilot project for solar LED streetlights in Nairobi. This is also Philips' first project in East Africa, which has the potential to achieve 100 energy savings.
When talking about the development status and prospects of LED street lights, Climate Group and Philips mentioned the following points in their reports on the rise of LED street lighting and its significance to the city:
1. Surveys in Kolkata, London, Sydney and Toronto show that citizens prefer LED lighting. Respondents from 68 to 90 supported the citywide promotion of the technology. The security and visibility improvements brought by LED lighting are the most concerned.
2. Experiments show that the LED lighting life cycle ranges from 50,000 to 100,000 hours, indicating that LED lighting investment is a high-return investment.
3, LED lighting technology is durable, small maintenance. More than 6000 hours of use LED products have a failure rate of 1. The rate of failure of traditional lighting products is about 10.
4. The LED market is at a critical point, while white LEDs for outdoor lighting are in the early stages of the process curve. Market share is rapidly increasing and market share is expected to increase by 2020. A recent report by the International Labor Organization (ILO) concluded that the green economy can create about 6 million jobs. Climate organizations, Philips and their partners have called on the government to accelerate the large-scale use of urban LEDs and immediately invest in capitalization to create high-value jobs around the world.
5. Lighting Energy Saving Test (LightSaver) shows that LED technology is now mature and can be applied to outdoor lighting on a large scale, bringing economic and social benefits to the public.
