It is reported that Raytheon has obtained a US$22.5 million contract from the US Navy and continues to provide system development, testing and integration services for the Ship Self-Defense System (SSDS). Under the contract, the company will also provide platform system engineering agency services as well as fleet deployment system support services.
The ship self-defense system is a distributed combat management system with an open architecture for aircraft carriers and many amphibious ships. Its purpose is to speed up the ship's "detection-combat" capability, resist anti-ship cruise missiles in time, and integrate independent sensors and weapon systems to achieve rapid response and multi-target engagement.
Raytheon also said that the Navy plans to increase the ceiling of the platform system engineering agency service contract by $50 million in 2013 and expand the service and support of the ship's self-defense system. Raytheon has been providing SSDS system development, maintenance, upgrades and lifecycle support to the Navy since 2008.
